Has anyone heard about Selphyl? It’s a new treatment in the world of fillers. It’s a process that involves using your own natural biology to promote the increase of volume and rejuvenation of the skin through a process of targeted tissue regeneration. This is going to sound very technical, which is why I have included a short video. This is a safe and rapid preparation of Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) proven to correct the effects of skin aging.
We are currently testing it out at our office. Results are not seen instantly, so we will keep you posted on what we find!
In the mean time watch the video clip below for a better understanding!!
If you have any questions regarding fillers of any kind, please feel free to email us at info@deltalaser.ca
Voluma is the newest product added to the family of Juvederm products made to enhance facial contours and give back the youthful fullness that we all lose as we begin to age. Voluma is being used to create a smoother, more youthful appearance to your cheeks, cheekbones and chin.
Voluma is an injectable hyaluronic volumiser that is being used to recontour the face. As we age, cheeks, cheekbones and chins become hollow either due to weight loss or age related fat loss. This treatment is quick and effective. Immediately after treatment you will notice the restoration of the volume to your cheeks giving you an overall more youthful appearance.
The best part of this treatment is – it will last! Results from Voluma injections are lasting up to 18 months!!
If you would like more information on Voluma and what it can do for you visit us at www.deltalaser.ca or call 604-543-8965.
Cocktails for Cause is a night of glamour hosted by Jillian Harris and Delta Laser. The event takes place at Earls Strawberry Hill, located at 7236 120 Street in Surrey, on June 17, from 7 – 10 pm. Nira Arora, host of The Beat 94.5fm’s Kid Carson Show will also be there supporting this worthy cause!
Jillian Harris earned the title Bachelorette when ABC viewers fell in love with her bubbly personality on the hit show The Bachelor. The Vancouverite volunteered with Big Brothers from 2005 to 2008 as an in-school mentor at Bayview Elementary School.
Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver is a registered charity and community-based organization that has been operating in the Lower Mainland since 1957. Traditionally, they have offered friendship based mentoring programs and matched boys & girls who have limited to no contact with their families with carefully screened and trained adult volunteers. Times have changed, and in response, they have developed a menu of programs to suit the diversity of the communities we serve. Although the Big Brothers movement was born out of a need to combat a growing delinquency rate, their mentoring programs now serve a much greater purpose. The notion of prevention-based mentoring programs remains the same, but the driving force behind the concept has evolved. Big Brothers now recognizes that the mentor-mentee relationship is a shared, meaningful experience for both the child and the volunteer. Everyday experiences mean BIG impacts for the child, the volunteer and the community at large.
Tickets are $50 and include Photos on the Red Carpet, appies and a red rose cocktail and an Intimate Q & A session with Jillian. There will be an EXCLUSIVE silent auction of items hand picked by Jillian. Proceeds are to benefit Big Brothers of Greater Vancovuer. Tickets are available at the clinic as well as Delta Laser, Earls Strawberry Hill or online here. If you are unable to attend the event but would still like to make a donation, any contribution is greatly appreciated. If you have questions, please give us a call at 604-543-8965 and we will be happy to assist you.

Okay, Melasma, commonly known as the “pregnancy mask” is a regular occurance. You are not alone - and you know what? There is a treatment to correct it!
Melasma presents itself as a dark facial skin rash with irregular borders. The rash is usually recognized by its symmetrical presentation on the cheeks, lips, nose or forehead. Skin discoloration can also occur on the upper arms. The skin discoloration can vary in color ranging from a dark brown to a deep grey.
The condition is universal and seen in all cultures and ethnicities; however it is far more commonly seen in Asians, Hispanics, Arabs and North Africans who all seem to have higher levels of melanin in their skin and a tendency to tan. Individuals with fair skin may experience a lighter shade of melasma which is not always recognized.
The cause of melasma remains unknown but is believed to be due to an increase in the production of cells which release the pigment melanin, which is responsible for the dark color of the skin.
What causes the increased production of melanin is not known but some triggers include:
Heredity factors and hormone fluctuation/production: the rash is most common in pregnant females
Prolonged sun exposure
Use of birth control pills
Certain medications like tetracycline and anti-malarial drugs (derived from quinine)
Melasma is not related to any medical disorder and by itself is a harmless skin condition despite the cosmetic concern associated with its appearance on facial skin. Diagnosing melasma in pregnant women is relatively simple, yet in men and women who are not pregnant, drug related skin reactions and other medical conditions may have to be ruled out.
What is the treatment for melasma? Sun protection is the most important part of treatment for melasma, since the pigment will continue to darken with sun exposure. Sunscreens must be worn daily. Combinations of bleaching and fading creams together with laser treatments for pigmentation, such as Fraxel® laser treatments, can be used to fade the pigment.
Why is Fraxel® Laser Treatment more advantageous over other laser treatments for pigmentation?
It improves all types of melasma pigmentation.
It can be used on all skin types, including darker complexions, and multiple treatments are required.
Lightening of the pigment can be seen within a few weeks.
It improves the texture and radiance of the skin.
It improves sun damage, brown spots, and wrinkles which usually occur with melasma.

The innovative Fraxel Restore Laser is specially designed to alter only fractional volumes of the target tissue. Similar to precise alteration of photographs and paintings, the clinical effect of this treatment technique is to alter the appearance of aging and sun-damaged skin. The creation of tiny microscopic wounds results in a wound healing process and a response to the coagulation of collagen fibers.
What are the benefits?
After your very first Fraxel Laser Treatment, you will begin to feel the difference in your skin, as it gradually becomes softer, smoother and fresher. Fine lines around your eyes will noticeably fade. So will uneven coloring and the brown spots caused by aging and sun exposure. Fraxel is considered the treatment of choice for Acne Scarring and effective for other scars such as post traumatic or surgical scarring.
What does the Fraxel Laser treat?
Fraxel Laser is probably the best treatment available for removing acne scars (check out our Acne Scar blog for more information). Fraxel is also used to eliminate age spots/brown spots, melasma, surgical scars, stretch marks & fine facial wrinkles.
What does the treatment feel like?
Treatment is well tolerated and feels like a prickling sensation. A topical anesthetic ointment is applied prior to treatment to allay any discomfort. Highly effective treatment with minimal downtime. Results can be comparable to full resurfacing techniques.
Good news – with the innovative Fraxel Restore there are no more blue faces because there’s no more blue dye!
How long does the treatment take?
The anesthetic requires 45-60 minutes to take full effect. The treatment is then performed using the lipid base anesthetic ointment as the contact lubricant. A treatment typically will take approximately 20-25 minutes.
Is there any downtime?
Mild swelling should subside within a day or so, and redness usually fades over several days. Patients can apply make-up immediately after treatment and return to routine activities.

Studies are showing that girls are starting to receive botox injections at a younger age. They are doing this as a preventative measure, and really that is very smart!!! I think a lot of people are under the misconception that botox is for old people, when in fact the younger you start the better. Botox is commonly used in areas that have dynamic muscle movement like the frown. The more you frown the deeper the lines become. In our office alone, we have 3 staff members in their 20′s who are using botox as a preventative measure both in the frown and around the eyes and they are loving the smooth results. The trick is to catch the lines before they have an opportunity to permanently scar your skin. I heard an anaology the other day that was perfect, ” think of a crumpled piece of paper, when you flatten it back out the lines remain visible on the paper. Think of your skin in the same way. ” Botox relaxes the muscle under the skin, thereby stopping the wrinkling effect you see on the skin’s surface. Which brings me to the point that Botox is a safe, easy and extremely effective way to deal with unwanted lines and wrinkles for people of all ages.
If you want more information on how Botox can help your unwanted lines and wrinkles call the office at 604 543 8965 or visit our website http://www.deltalaser.ca/botox.html
Well everyone it is now officially fall….This prompts me to write this blog post regarding tanned skin and laser hair removal treatments. We cannot treat tanned skin with the lightsheer laser. This is for your own safety!!! Using the lightsheer on tanned skin will result in a burn. I know it can be difficult to completely shield yourself from the sun, especially this summer because we did have such great weather, and hey, we are certainly not complaining. Just don’t be disappointed if we cannot do your treatment due to the fact that you have some left over color on your skin from the summer.
We can offer a couple of alternatives: one, we can use our softlight laser which is safe for tanned skin but does not offer the same permanent results as the lightsheer. The second alternative is we can simply wait a couple of extra weeks and resume your lightsheer treatments when you feel your tan has faded.
So, all that being said if we suggest you wait on your laser hair removal treatments due to a tan please don’t be disappointed, we are doing you and your skin a HUGE favour!!!
